I came across a post recently from an activeRainer who was complaining about PW's (PointWhores) and Rainers who leave simple, mindless, little comments. You know, worthless comments like "Great Post," and "Thanks For Sharing."
At first I thought, well, okay, I'll leave my comment, which said something like, "I enjoy and appreciate getting a comment from anyone, anytime." But later, after reading the posters constant complaining about those of us who leave those type of HORRIBLE,little, pitiful comments, I DELETED it. I decided, since this poster usually IGNORES (in the posters words) those types of comments, that the poster just didn't deserve a message/comment from me...because my comments, in my view, are special. Regardless if the comments are long or short.
Maybe I don't always have time to add a long comment. Maybe I can't inject anything that adds substance to the post because the original content is so well written and informative, which is often the case. ACTIVE RAIN has some great posters!!! Or, maybe, I just want to let my fellow poster know that I at least read the post (AND I do read them, if I comment). AND, if I comment, it is NOT for points.
So what is wrong with comments like GREAT POST! THANKS FOR SHARING! ????
I'll tell you: NOTHING...ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.
Feel free to leave comments (thanks ahead of time) as wordy, or not, as you wish. I appreciate them all!
So, how about calling July 15, 2008, in the Rain, COMMENT APPRECIATION DAY!!!

Hi Kat, Great Post, thanks for sharing...notice there are not many comments today. Everyone is watching the stock market, Bush and Fed Chairman.
Couldn't agree with you anymore...with my children at hand, time is SHORT! A simple "nice post" is suffice for me! :)
Cheron Lange
Thanks. we all needed that.

Kat I read a post complaining about people showing marketing reports for different areas. I thought if you post those to localism for the public it was good thing. The public wants info and a lot of us are on this to market ourselves as well. I started to give my opinion and decided not to get into a hassle with somebody. I am on here as well to create relationships and there wasn't anything positive going to come of it. Why do we care if somebody else is a "pw"? If I don't like it I won't read it and I will avoid that person but I'm not going to start a bunch of garbage over it
Thanks for sharin, lol.
Kathy, I agree with you. Sometimes you put a lot of effort into a post but for whatever reason, it just doesn't generate a lot of comments. Of course, your goal is to come up with interesting, relavent content, but occasionally you'll miss your mark. And like you, there are times when I enjoyed reading someone's post but don't really have anything particularly important to say, ergo the "thanks for sharing" or "great post" comments and when it comes to my posts, I'll taken them anyday!
Christine: I was, too (watching Bush). THANKS for COMMENTING!
Cheron: I'm with you. THANKS for stopping by. GREAT comment!
Veronica: You're welcome!!! THANKS for commenting!

I totally agree with you! I don't mind comments that are short and brief, and I don't mind comments that are very long. So what if there are point whores out there. Who cares? One person may post the same as another, and one is a point whore and the other is not. We can't tell unless we follow that poster all over the place and watch to see if that person is only there for points...but who cares?
People who are in business for selfish reasons tend not to last very long. Those who care for others in their business build relationships and take care of their clients, and isn't part of ActiveRain experience that of building relationships. Little comments go a long way towards that end.
I'll even go a step further...that rule about no phone calls...I understand why it exists, but I personally don't mind if people want call me to network and build relationships. I think that is part of the equation myself. I'll respect the rules, as I know some don't like it. Call me, write a 1 word comment in reply to my blogs...point whores are welcome to visit too! Actually...I like point whores, they help bring our blogs back up to the top of the groups, helping to keep the blog active for a longer period of time...so post away point whores! Bookmark my blog and visit often!
Kathy. I appreciated your post. I too agree with you. If you have time to post a long one, do it. If not, make it short and sweet. I understand this is an open site. You can say what is in your heart. The way that I figure, so what if someone does not like the short posts. Don't they have something better to do than to talk about a post that was too short for their liken. I think you can look at it this way "There are some of us that can say more in less words." I have seen some posts that have 100 words in it. I am sure that some of us could write a post saying the same thing or more in less that 10 words. Keep writing your short posts. Thanks for sharing. Royal..
Hi Kat,
Sounds like we have some comment snobs...anyway, great post...thanks for sharing! Now can I please have my 25 points....;)
Gregory: You made many GREAT points! THANKS. My favorite is Little comments go a long way towards that end. So true!
Royal: I don't get it either, why someone would complain because a commentor did not leave a long remark. I like ANY comment. THANKS so much for SHARING!

Suzanne: YOU can have 50 points as far as I'm concerned! LOL THANKS for commenting, my friend!

Kat - Great post - thanks for sharing... : -) sorry just could not help myself.
In regard to the rule about no phone calls. It has to do with calling other members to solicit business. (also for that matter sending junk email) You can contact other members and built relationships, or send them an email mail.
Totally agree, if someone wants to get points from reading my artical and responding Great! I am just happy to have comments and know that people are looking at what I have to say. Question: Do we get Points when they comment on our site? If so, why would anyone be complaining?
Kat - I completely agree with you. There is nothing wrong with the short comments, at least people are commenting and appreciate what you have taken the time to write. Also, isn't it about relationship building here on the rain? Great post and I appreciate it!!
Sandra: LOL...you can leave those comments any day on a post of mine. THANK YOU FOR SHARING!
Raylene: Totally agree! I "think" we get points when they comment on our site (see, I don't really know, so I guess I don't qualify as a PW). LOL GREAT COMMENT!
Sharon: Yes, I believe it IS about relationship building. My "other half" is very quiet, if I waited for a long winded reply from him sometimes, I'd be waiting a long time. SO, I treasure what little he HAS to say. THANKS for STOPPING BY! I appreciate it.

Ok So here is my stupid little PW comment on your blog post, I did read the whole thing (promise)!
I'll take my 25 points and go home to bed now! <LOL>
PS how did you make the TOP of your blog so beautiful? I see so many great ones!
Every time I pick the "perfect photo" it never sizes right up and centers out correctly?
Kat,
PW is a new term for me here in the Rain. I read your post with appreciation! I love to blog; the points follow.
Mike in Tucson
Kim: I SO agree with you!!! I could care less how much a person wants to write. THANKS SO MUCH!!! Patience of an ant...lol that's cute.

Katrina: WOW--that was tricky (header pic), but here goes: I took the pic I wanted to use and before resizing, I added the text (at Picnik.com) then sized the thing for the header dimentions (whatever it says). IT's ALL ABOUT SIZE LOL Took me MANY tries, I must admit! Go do it, girl YOU CAN!
