TOURING LISTINGS...FEW DO

We had an interesting office meeting today. The subject: Touring company, MLS and fellow realtors' listings. One of the listings we had on tour today belongs to an agent who RARELY tours ANYONE'S listings. In fact, the agent RARELY even bothers showing up at our "mandatory" meetings. The  agent always has some kind of excuse (dog has a hangnail, need to watch the grass grow, having gas pains). I feel, as others have expressed, the  agent thinks he/she is better than the rest of us. Most likely though, it is just plain old rudeness and lack of consideration for our company and could care less about being a "team player."

On another side of this topic: Coming to, and touring,  MLS and company meetings  are a great way to learn the inventory and (if you're fairly new to a city as I am) the area. Plus, we can catch up on current  "real estate" news, changes in laws and meet with other agents.

Now don't get me wrong, we ALL, from time to time, have to miss a meeting or tour. LIFE happens.  But 99% of the time?  Come on...no one has that much gas.

I like to preview listings in my marketing area.  Every week a few agents and myself go tour the listing inventory.  Keep up the great work and hope you have a great 2007.

Thanks, Sean, for your comment.   I appreciate it.  I really believe that touring listings are essential to our real estate business.

Kat. Your commet on company and mls tours was great. I am sure that every company has those SPACIAL AGENTS that think they are so special  -- none on the rules are ment for them.  As for being a team player,  well those SPECIAL AGENTS usually have a hard time playing with others anyway.  Going on tour with your company or the mls is a great way to meet all the agents in your area along with learning the inventory. Way to go, Brenda Ersnt

Wow, my office is not the only one with these kind of agents.  I had one agent that had a chronic toothache.   They are out there aren't they?

Did that agent ever get false teeth?      I know, it amazes me why more agents don't tour. That is how I keep up on the inventory.   Thanks for the post!

I think some agents simply don't take the right attitude towards this business, it can be frustrating as a manager, that is why we are always looking for good people

I so agree. Attitude is such a large part of everything in life--personal and business.   When I first started R.E., it was in Lake Arrowhead, CA (mt resort). Thursdays were exhausting....as we usually had at least 40 homes to tour. And sometimes, during the summer, it was an ALL day thing.  BUT, when I had Open Houses on weekends, if someone came in and this wasn't the "right" home for them, I could put my sign down, load the new clients in the car and off we'd go. It HELPED so much knowing the inventory.  I think we're getting away from the basics.

Kat and Tim,

I think REALTORS need to realize that this is their business. They are the boss and it depends on how they run their business if it is a success or it fails.  You can't just sit and wait for the phone to ring anymore, you actually need to get off your bu____ and do your job. This is a great business but you need to pay attention to what is going on out there. You will very seldom ever sell your own listing so it is double important to go on the mls tours to get to know all the agents. After all they are the ones that will be out there selling your listings. Brenda Ernst
