Selling and Decorating Your Home In The Fall

Fall is quickly approaching and so many sellers are asking " How do I decorate my home for fall while I am selling it ? " This is a question posed by a lot of sellers because after all it's still YOUR home and you want to " live " in it, but you also understand the importance of keeping your home clutter free.

Staging your home with fall decor can be valuable, but you also have to keep in mind that potential buyers may not share your enthusiasm for a season, holiday or decor. When decorating you want to ensure that your decor is not too distracting and that the decor is not the primary focus of the home. Instead, it is best to accentuate the space(s) that will add more charm to your home. A minimalist ( less is more ) approach is the best way to tackle fall decor.

Fall Decor Ideas When Selling Your Home

Since fall means pumpkin spice, crisp air and colorful leaves, one of the first recommendations, if you have a fireplace, is to accentuate the fireplace. You can minimally decorate your mantel if you have one or even the surrounding area with faux pumpkins, pine cones, gourds and a fall topiary.

A decorative fall wreath on the front door with a couple haystacks on the porch, potted plants and pumpkins will add a beautiful touch. It's minimalist, yet appealing to the eye and makes your house look " homey " but it is not overwhelming. Dining room tables with fall decor adds character. Wooden centerpiece boxes can add the rustic feel of fall and you can add faux corn, fall leaves, mini pumpkins and even some candles that will fill your home will fall scents like pumpkin, apple and cinnamon. Go for natural scents and don't burn anything too overwhelming that can aggravate others with allergies.

Selling and Decorating Your Home In The Fall

While kitchen counters should be kept neat and tidy, adding a fall ornamental won't hurt. A couple of candles on a fall dish adds charm without overwhelming the area. As will a lantern. Remember to always keep walkways, driveways and porches clear to minimize clutter, but also so that it does not become a hazard.

Have fun decorating and if you are unsure of what to do, speak with your Realtor or hire a home stager that specializes in staging homes through the seasons and holidays that are also for sale.
