Landscaping Drought Tolerant Plants & Vegetables in Lake Arrowhead

Spring is upon us and this is the time of the year when we start to landscape and make our properties beautiful and show stopping. Our gardens are meticulously seeded and we wait in anticipation as each begins to bloom. When doing this it is important to landscape with plants, trees and shrubs that are drought tolerant to save you money and time and of course conserve water.

Fruits and Vegetables are not drought tolerant but in some cases they will come back year after year. Fruit trees actually do the best in the mountains so plant things like apple, pear, fig, cherry, plum or nectarine. It is advised to stay away from citrus trees, pomegranate and avocado trees because they do not perform well and do not thrive in the mountains.

The best vegetables to plant are lettuce, tomatoes, peppers, asparagus and artichokes.

Be mindful that watermelon, cantaloupe and other melons do not grow in the mountains as well.

Scotch broom is an invasive specie and is poisonous to both humans and animals. They are also a fire hazard. While they smell great, they are not permitted in yards.
