I had an interesting thing happen the other day that I think is worth chatting about. You all know I live and sell in the resort
town of Lake Arrowhead. Well, in a resort area, there are quite a few rental companies to deal with (mostly) weekend folks and vacationers. We have several such companies to handle this type of business. And several do both: RENT & SALE.
One of my latest listings is that of clients whom I sold their home too a couple of years ago. And, when they bought it, they asked which company I would suggest to rent it out. I gave them two such company names and numbers. They picked one and have had their home on the rental plan ever since.
They have now decided to sell their home and have me list it. But before I sent them the listing agreement, they contacted the rental company and told them what their plans were (gave them the appropriate 30 day notice). The rental peeps started on them immediately about listing with their company. My sellers made it perfectly clear that their Realtor was Kat DeLong, with Mountain Country Realty and that is who they'd be using.
WELL! The rental company got pretty ticked off and canceled three of the weekends they had scheduled to rent out. RUDE...plain RUDE and uncalled for, as far as I am concerned. There was no reason for this to happen, as I had the scheduled weekends listed as "NO SHOWS" on my day timer and had all interested Realtors CALL me for dates. No lock box on the property because we didn't want renters disturbed.
I'm disappointed in the rental company that treated my clients so poorly. I'm disappointed that I can't feel comfortable sending clients to a rental company without feeling they are going to be harassed if they decide to sell and don't list with them.
SHAME ON YOU is what I have to say. And YOU can be sure I won't recommend your rental company ever again.

I can understand that they asked for the listing, I'd have done that also...but then to retaliate? I think your clients might have reason for get some damages from them, if they are abiding by their contract with the rental company.
Karen; my clients gave them the 30-day notice necessary... Also, I THINK first the rental company should have asked, are you working with a Realtor (normally they have one here). That's what I do with all my clients. We live in a very small area.
IMHO * you only have one side of the story. The rental company having guest in a unit also listed for sale is problematic if you did not actually discuss your marketing and showings with them.
Wallace; The rental company was given their 30-day notice by my clients. My clients knew my marketing plans well before the agreement. Also, we have many homes listed for sale that are also on a rental program; standard resort issues/practice here.
We have had that same experience. Where the property manager tries to get them listed.
Kat
Not only rude they are very unprofessional.
Good luck and success.

Edward... Yeppers.
Lou; 100% agreed.
Sorry Kat. I have a really hard time with the rental companies up here and the way they treat many of my clients ~ Two such companies come to mind. It is really sad to be so unprofessional.
Thanks, Kim; Agree 100%, unprofessional! And we're so small up here, that other Realtors need/should ALWAYS ask a client; ARE YOU working with someone.
