Why Are You on ActiveRain? Why Blog? Who Are Your Followers?

Your Lake Arrowhead Realtor would like to share some local Lake Arrowhead Informationwith you.

Writing a BlogI've been on ActiveRain since 2007 and have come a long way in respect to my posts: what I write, how I write and to whom I write. At first I was going for the points (it was ALL about points). Once I got over that pointless hurdle (it took a long time), the light bulb went off; Write for your audience.

Since the majority of bloggers here on AR are Realtors (lenders, etc), I have to think that most are here to increase their business (make $$$'s). Oh yeah, I know, there's the social friendship thingy, but I still believe you're mainly here for business. I AM!

Newbies will quite often ask "What do I write about?" I always tell them, "Whatever you want?" (local stuff, poetry, jokes, photos, whatever). Then I pull out these questions:

  1. What is your main objective for joining ActiveRain?
  2. What do want to accomplish with your blogging?
  3. What kind of followers do you want to attract?

The third question is very important because the type of content you produce will dictate who you will attract.  I want to increase my business, so I write about local events & share local information & history. It works for me. The consumers/clients who follow me know they're going to learn about Lake Arrowhead and other mountain communities. ...and they get to know me along the way.

CONTENT is KING/QUEEN: Regardless who your target audience is, try and sit back and look at your post objectively.  Is it interesting? Would you come back again? What did you get out of it?

The bottom line is write what you know, to the audience you wish to reach and make it your best every time.

Kat - AMEN!!!  I couldn't have said it better (as often as I have tried).  For any newbies reading this:  IT'S NOT ABOUT THE POINTS OR THE FEATURED POSTS OR EVEN YOUR RANKING!!!

When consumers find you on AR, all they want to know is how can YOU help THEM with THEIR particular need.  They couldn't care less about how many points you have (or don't have) or how many featured posts you have (or don't have) or what your particular ranking is.

Whenever I have asked a consumer who contacted me from my AR blog about those things, they have no idea what I'm talking about and are generally confused about the questions.  Write for them and what they need to know about you and the market you serve.  JMHO

Christine: Thanks so much!!!! Glad you like the webcam.

Donne: Thanks much.  I "try" hard to write what I would want to read/learn about an area.... always putting on another pair of shoes, in a manner of speaking.

AR is a wonderful place to learn and grow.  Blogging is a creative expression and the outlet at AR is a blessing!
