The word "fire" scares even the bravest people. And especially when it comes when we're talkingabout forest fires.
The Mountain Area Safely Taskforce (MAST) was formed in 2002 because the group was concerned with
the publics' safety in our mountain communities. MAST has helped to reduce the fire threats in our San Bernardino Mountains by removing more than 1,000,000 dead (or dying) trees; either on private or public properties. Below are some very useful tips to help keep your home safe from fire:
- Maintain 100-ft "defensible clearance around your home or other structures. 30-100 feet should be a reduced fuel zone to property line.
- Trim branches within 10 feet of your home's chimney
- Get rid of dead (or dying) trees and other dry vegetation
- Remove all pine needles and leaves from under your decks and within 10 feet of your home or other structures
- Trim grass to four-inches in height
- When planting trees, space them 20 to 30 feet apart
- Landscape with resistant to fires and with plants that require little watering

Kat - so glad you posted this. It is so sad that property owners don't take these precautions. Every year California seems to be plagued by fires.
Morning Joan; We always have to be mindful of the possibilities of forest fires when we live among the trees don't we?
