Lake Arrowhead's Native Animals, Birds & Plants ~ Thought You'd Like to Know

Your Lake Arrowhead Realtor would like to share some local Lake Arrowhead Informationwith you.

Racoons in Lake ArrowheadQuite often as I am showing property, I'll be asked by potential buyers, "What kind of tree is that?  Or, "What kind of wild animals do you have here?" Both are great questions because we do have some very different animals, birds, trees & plants, than most folks experience "off the mountain."

Some of our native mountain critters include coyotes, bob catsPonderosa Pine, black bear, grey squirrel (though we rarely see these guys anymore), chipmunks, ground squirrels, raccoons, mountain lions, skunks & cougars. I've seen all of these at one time or another, except the cougar.  And you may run across a mule deer and red fox, but not often.

Trees! Oh we have some big, beautiful trees in our local mountains: White fir, ponderosa pine, cedar, white pine, coulter pine, black oak, white oak & always my favorite, dogwoods! As you drive around the lake, you will see that the warmer side will include more oaks (and manzanitas), verses the cooler side and all their pines.

WoodpeckerBirdies in our mountains is, for sure, a bird-watchers dream: Of course the Stellar Jay! Blue Jay, Quail, Ducks, Western Tanager, Northern Tanager, Wood Pecker (just like Woodie), Chickadees, Barn Owls and Bald Eagles & hawks. The nosiest of the bunch is hands down, The Stellar Jays.

...and then there are the insects and other mountain pests. Ah, that's for another post.

Kat -- when I lived in San Franicsco, we had a "pack" of raccoons who climbed up 3 stories and ate spaghetti from our deck.  It was hysterical.. however, when the other raccoons found out, it wasn't we had to stop the restaurant service!  LOL

Joan:  I looked out my backdoor, long ago, to find a rac' up on his hind legs, eating a partial maple bar that had been in the trash... he/she never flinched! :-)
