No one really likes to discuss this disease; Alcoholism. So, I will. I think it is extremely important to acknowledge problems or concerns in order to either "help yourself" or perhaps "someone" you love or care about who may be suffering from an addiction. I've written and been published about this topic many times. It's a subject close to my heart.
I know the face of "alcoholism." No, I am not an alcoholic, THANK God. I do, however, have several members on both sides of my family tree who are, or were. It isn't a disease that discriminates. It doesn't care what sex you are, the color of your skin, where you live or how much money you make. It can affect any one of us.
According to the MAYO CLINIC, Alcoholism is a chronic disease that makes your body dependent on alcohol. You may be obsessed with alcohol and unable to control how much you drink, even though your drinking is causing serious problems with your relationships, health, work and finances.
Are you suffering from alcoholism or drug addiction? Do you know someone who may be? If so, suggest they attend an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting. It could be the first step on the road to a new and better life.
