Using Local Lake Arrowhead Contractors can Save you Time, Money & Headache

Living in the Southern California Mountain Resort of Lake Arrowhead, and having 50% of my clients living off the mountain, I am asked quite often, "Can you recommend the name of a local contractor?"... Either they want a room added on or a remodel or maybe just some deck work. Of course I know many good contractors, but I am more likely to pass along the information below, chalked full of useful help. But before I do that, always remember these tips:

  1. Make sure the contractor you may hire is in good standing with the California Contractors  State Licensing Board.
  2. You Get What You Pay for; Don't hire someone just because they are the cheapest. You want several bids.
  3. Unlicensed contractors cannot legally perform jobs costing more than $500.00

Kat saw this on Facebook.  Cheap is not always the best way to go, it can be more costly in the long run.  Using local licensed contractors who come highly recommended from a good source is the way to go.

Kat, a great idea to use local contractors. I always try to find someone that is advertising in the paper, and have now collected quite a few good names to suggest to clients. ;-)

Teri: I have quite a list, too. Thankfully, we have some very good contractors up here.

I came across this blog and felt obligated to post that the unique challenges of building residential homes in the mountains cannot be understated. Our mountainous terrain offers a beautiful place to live but, can be extremely challenging for even the most experienced homebuilder. It is to any homeowners benefit to deal only with licensed, local contractors.

Hi Mike: You are absolutely right, the benefits of hiring local contractors are right on the mark. Our terrain here in the mountains is "unique" to say the least. And YOU local contractors are experts when it comes to building on our sloped lots.   Thanks so much for commenting. I appreciate it.
