This is the perfect time of year to pack up the kids and take a little hike in The National Children's Forest.
This sweet little forest is on 3,400 acres in the San Bernardino Mountains near the town of Arrowbear, just east of Running Springs.
The National Children's Forest was formed in 1970 after the Bear Fire. It was replanted and the trees were named after children. In 1993, a trail was added thanks to the hard work by a group of children from all over the country. The 3/4 mile "interpretive" trail is paved and at the top of Keller Peak Road and, though it was specifically designed to accommodate the needs of the physically and visually disabled, all children (and adults) enjoy taking this hike.
You may also want to try the 4.5-mile Exploration Trail, designed by children!
If you're interested in visiting and experiencing the Children's Forest, stop by the Visitor Information Center next to the Deerlick Fire Station on highway 18 in Arrowbear/Running Springs.
