Gotta admit it, my "Curves" disappeared many moons again... but that's another story.

From March 1 thru March 31, 2010, Curves will be collecting non perishable items and monetary donations for our local mountain food banks.

Our Lake Arrowhead Curves, who have been in business for seven years, have donated approximately six tons of food to local food banks. That's a lot of food for those folks in need. And, for those members who donate a bag of groceries or make a donation of $30.00 during the month of March, will receive a reusable Curves grocery freezer bag. Non-members who do the same, between March 8 - 20, can join Curves FREE.

Curves is using this community drive to inspire all their companies by having a contest; The Curves winners will receive one of many prizes to be donated at their local food bank.

No one really likes to discuss this disease; Alcoholism. So, I will. I think it is extremely important to acknowledge problems or concerns in order to either "help yourself" or perhaps "someone" you love or care about who may be suffering from an addiction. I've written and been published about this topic many times. It's a subject close to my heart.

I know the face of "alcoholism." No, I am not an alcoholic, THANK God. I do, however, have several members on both sides of my family tree who are, or were.  It isn't a disease that discriminates. It doesn't care what sex you are, the color of your skin, where you live or how much money you make. It can affect any one of us.

According to the MAYO CLINIC, Alcoholism is a chronic disease that makes your body dependent on alcohol. You may be obsessed with alcohol and unable to control how much you drink, even though your drinking is causing serious problems with your relationships, health, work and finances.

Are you suffering from alcoholism or drug addiction? Do you know someone who may be? If so, suggest they attend an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting. It could be the first step on the road to a new and better life.

Papoose Lake, on the northeast side of Lake Arrowhead (across from the Arrowhead Lake Association/marina), came about after a study found that Arrowhead Dam could possibly be unsafe if we suffered an earthquake of a 6.5 magnitude or higher. This was brought about after 1971 Sylmar Earthquake, which caused damage to the Van Norman Dam.   A seven million dollar bond was passed, paid for by Arrowhead Woods property owners and... here we are today. I know this is a touchy topic, but I'll walk the tight rope and ask, "Do you want to lose a few lbs?" Got a little too much junk in your truck? Is your muffin top over the top? Do you get out of breath walking to the frig?  I really must confess and say YES to all those questions. So I've done a little research (for me) and thought I'd share a couple of places that you may find helpful... in some way or another.

Weight Watchers, as you all know, is a program where you track your food with "Points."  For instance, maybe your daily Point target is 25; each food or drink you consume has a point value (you'll get a chart of those points when you sign up). You can either go to a local meeting weekly, or used WW's online program. There's a meeting place in Twin Peaks' Senior Center. Click here for map & directions.

Curves is designed to give you a 30 minute workout  with their specifically designed equipment. A few minutes on each machine, then to the next. This workout gives you a complete cardio and strength training workout, with a system that can burn up to 500 calories and works every major muscle group.  Click here for map & directions.

Lake Arrowhead Pilates Center. Pilates is an easy-on-your-joints exercise method movement technique that engages your mind and body in an effort to achieve overall physical fitness. Resort Fitness & More. Ah, now this is a wonderful place to workout. Period. I've been meaning to write about this for a while, as I still see many political-type posts and have been wondering "How's it workin' for you?"

What do I mean? Well, as far as your business goes, do you think these kind of posts are helpful to your BIZ? Are you alienating certain groups: Conservatives? Democrats? Middle of The Roaders? I'd say you MUST BE! How could you not be when you spew crap about a certain political party, be it a rolling-on-the-floor joke from the comic strips, or a worthy news breaking piece on TV.

Politics, like religion, can become a heated conversation under the best of times and circumstances. I KNOW. I am very passionate about my beliefs. But I realize, through trial and error, that there is a time and a place for "sharing" my thoughts. Once it goes out on the 'net, you can never unring that bell, even if you post under MEMBERS ONLY.

So my question is; does posting your political thoughts bring you business? Or are you ticking off many potential clients?

You ALL know how I keep you posted on The Mountain Top Hiking Clubs trips, so I thought I'd tell you about this weekend's plans. And you won't want to miss it because let's face it, the weather is PERFECT after some SOCAL storms we'd had, one after another.

Saturday, February 13, 2010:  Calico Mountains - Sierra Club - Mojave Group
This hike is moderate to difficult, 10-11 miles. The club plans to hike from Sunrise Canyon to Mule Canyon. Best to bring your sturdy boots, 2-3 qts. water, lunch and snacks.

Lake Arrowhead is located in The San Bernardino National Forest, approx 20 miles from San Bernardino, 90 miles from Los Angeles and 72 miles from Palm Springs. We're tucked amoung some 9,000 plus acres at an altitude of 5,108 feet.

Our lake is private and is governed by Arrowhead Lake Association (ALA), with 780 plus acres in capacity and a shoreline of approx 14 miles. Lake's depth (at maximum) is about 185 feet. In order to have the privilege of using our lake, you must  own property within certain boundaries of "The Woods."

 Arrowhead Woods Architectual Committee was set up to enforce the covenants, conditions and restrictions (CC&Rs) attached to all properties in Arrowhead Woods. They work hard to preserve the unique character of our area within the Arrowhead Woods. 

We experince four mild seasons in the San Bernardino Mountain town of Lake Arrowhead, with approx 310 plus days of sunshine. Winter temps may dip to 28 and summer temps may rise to 81.

Our primary economic generator is tourism. Lake Arrowhead has over three million visitors a year and we're grateful to each and every one. The three top employers are Rim of The World School District, Mountains Community Hospital, Stater Bros & Jensens.

Facilities and activities include the private, 18-hole Lake Arrowhead Country Club & Lake Arrowhead Yacht Club. Lake Arrowhead Village is our largest shopping area with many stores and restaurants, plus you can take a tour on the Arrowhead Queen and get to know the history of Lake Arrowhead and where many stars lived.

The population in 2007 was approx. 10,000 plus people with a median age of 39 yrs old. In 2008, median household income was $79,558.
